Cognitive Behavioral Therapy is a type of therapy treatment that helps clients link their thoughts and feelings to their problematic behaviors. Cognitive Behavioral Therapy helps clients challenge the irrational thoughts that add to their feelings of depression or stress. CBT is helpful for phobias, depression and anxiety.
Mindfulness is a therapeutic technique that is grounded in awareness and balance. It helps one bring attention to the present and live more in the moment, without rushing to judge everything as “good” or “bad.” When we are not present in the moment, we lose out on the joy of now. Mindfulness helps us clarify our thoughts and work toward changing what can be changed. Mindfulness has been shown to be effective for anxiety, depression and thoughts of self-harm or similar behaviors.
Acceptance and Commitment Therapy focuses on moving away from the “numbness” we feel when we go through the motions of life and lose focus on what we value in life. ACT teaches us that our thoughts and feelings do not rule our lives. We can strengthen our connection our world and our values. ACT helps clients clarify their values and live their lives in a value-focused manner, without focusing all of their energy on reliving the past or “pre-living” the future. ACT can help with chronic illness, stress and depression.
Dialectical Behavior Therapy focuses on teaching the patient skills to cope with stress, regulate emotions and improve relationships with others. It was originally intended for people with borderline personality disorder, but has since been adapted for other conditions where the patient exhibits self-destructive behavior. Dr. Banks offers the “true form” of this treatment, as opposed to other providers who offer an altered version of this treatment. Dr. Banks is the ONLY local provider certified to provide DBT by the Dialectical Behavior Therapy National Certification and Accreditation Association (DBTNCAA)
